2020? Politico Names Chris Murphy One of Its “Power Players” in the Trump Era

Politico named Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) one of its three "power players" in "The Opposition" to President Trump. What does it mean for his 2020 chances?

Politico, a D.C. publication, is out with a list of 45 “PowerPlayers” in the Trump era. Connecticut’s own Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is one of three power players in “The Opposition” to President Trump.

Politico‘s description of Murphy:

Hardly a day goes by without Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy and California Rep. Adam Schiff on the airwaves calling out Republicans for their handling of the investigation into Russia’s intervention in the 2016 election. The two men have emerged as two of the most outspoken figures of the Democratic opposition to the Trump administration and congressional Republicans.

In February, the New York Post reported Steve Bannon wanted aides to “scour the background” of Murphy, who may run against Trump in 2020. An NBC News report last week named Murphy and Gov. Dan Malloy (D-Conn.) as potential Democratic presidential candidates for the next cycle.

Murphy has raised a lot of campaign cash for his re-election effort in 2018, but is the subject of a recent elections complaint from Republican Dan Carter over his planned use of federal campaign funds to organize at the state and local level.
