Blumenthal: If Kavanaugh is Confirmed, Trump Will Become a King

The senior senator from Connecticut took his anti-Kavanaugh rhetoric to a new level on Wednesday.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) told rally-goers in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday that President Trump will become a king if Judge Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court.

According to NTK Network, a conservative news aggregator:

Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, cited Kavanaugh’s arguments that the Department of Justice cannot subpoena the president.

“The president would be a monarch if Brett Kavanaugh becomes a Supreme Court justice,” the senator claimed. “I don’t think Americans want an imperial presidency.”

Video of Blumenthal’s comments is available at the NTK link above.

It’s hardly the first time Blumenthal has criticized Kavanaugh, but it’s his most eye-popping criticism yet. In July, Blumenthal said Kavanaugh’s “view of presidential powers” is “imperial.”

Of course, Blumenthal opposed the president’s Supreme Court pick before he was even announced the world.

It’s unclear if Blumenthal actually believes America will become a monarchy if Kavanaugh is confirmed, or if he’s merely ginning up fear of and opposition to the judge’s nomination.
