Corey Criticizes Murphy for Visiting FL Two Weeks Before Election

Chris Murphy's Republican opponent highlighted the senator's trip to Florida, to hold a town hall with a safe House incumbent, two weeks before Election Day.

On Tuesday, two weeks before Election Day, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) attended a town hall with Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) in Boca Raton, Florida. The town hall centered around Murphy’s signature issue, gun violence.

Murphy is up for reelection in 2018, but The Cook Political Report rates his U.S. Senate seat as “Solid D[emocratic].” Cook also rates Deutch’s 22nd Congressional District seat as “Solid Democratic.”

Murphy’s Republican opponent, Matt Corey, criticized Murphy for being in Florida two weeks before the election.

“If you want to talk to Chris Murphy today about the future of Connecticut, you’re out of luck,” said Corey. “Instead of defending his abysmal record of non-accomplishments in D.C., he is using his time and energy to help other Democratic candidates in other states.”

Corey offered to debate Murphy in Boca Raton, Florida. The only currently-scheduled debate between the two will air on Channel 3 in Connecticut on Sunday, October 28.
