Corey to Murphy: Let’s DebateOctober 8, 2018
The Republican nominee for U.S. Senate is challenging Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) to three debates, and claims Murphy's campaign has refused to schedule those debates.
Matt Corey, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Connecticut, is challenging Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) to three debates between now and Election Day, and claims the Murphy campaign has told the Corey campaign Murphy “is just too busy to schedule debates.”
“Our campaign has already reached out to Chris Murphy and was told he is just too busy to schedule debates,” said Matt Corey, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Connecticut.
“This is nothing more than a transparent dodge. The truth of the matter is Chris Murphy is terrified of discussing and debating his abysmal record in D.C. In 2006, candidate Murphy demanded a ‘series of debates’ against Congresswoman Nancy Johnson but now that he is the incumbent, refuses to set debates with me.”
Corey went on to say Connecticut voters “deserve three full debates – one in the eastern part of the state, one in the central part and one in the western part – so they can see for themselves if Chris Murphy is deserving of another term in office.”
Corey is running a tough campaign against Murphy in a very blue state. Murphy, for his part, has seemed interested as of late in burnishing his national credentials, ahead of a possible 2020 presidential campaign.
