CT Dems’ Leader: Tolls “Inevitable,” Will “Be All Over the Place”

The leader of Connecticut's House Democrats, union employee Joe Aresimowicz, has a message for CT drivers: we will absolutely have tolls.

Connecticut House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin) has a new message to Connecticut drivers in a Hartford Courant interview: get ready for tolls, because they are “inevitable.”

More from Courant reporter Christopher Keating (emphasis ours):

“We let people from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Maine, and Quebec ride through the state of Connecticut and pay nothing,” he said in an interview with The Courant’s editorial board. “It’s absolutely insane to me. So tolls, yes.”

Aresimowicz added, “Tolls are coming. They’re not going to be border tolls. They will be all over the place.

The Courant notes that 19 Democrats in the transportation committee just approved the tolls measure – 16 Republicans opposed it – but full approval is a more difficult haul.

In January, Reclaim Connecticut wrote about how Aresimowicz has drawn scrutiny in Connecticut for being House speaker while working for a state employee union. Aresimowicz can oversee bills that would cut state employee benefits or trigger layoffs.
