CVS Commits: Aetna HQ to Stay in Hartford Through 2028October 4, 2018
CVS also committed to keeping Aetna's employee level in Connecticut at 5,291 for four years.
CVS Health Corporation, the pharmacy company that announced its intention to acquire Aetna, one of the country’s major insurers, in December 2017, committed Wednesday to keeping Aetna’s headquarters in Hartford for at least ten years.
In a commitment letter signed by Thomas Moriarty, an executive vice president at CVS Health:
- “[Aetna’s] headquarters will remain in Hartford, Connecticut for at least ten years.”
- “[Aetna’s] books and records will remain in Hartford, Connecticut unless prior approval is received from CID.”
- “Employee levels for Aetna Inc. and its subsidiaries in Connecticut will remain approximately 5,291, the staffing levels in Connecticut on October 1, 2018, for at least the next four years effective post-closing.”
Gov. Dan Malloy (D-Conn.) presented the commitment as a win for Hartford.
“Today’s news is yet another positive step for Hartford and the capital region, coming on the heels of several major jobs announcements in the past year. I am confident that the city will continue to emerge as a hub for business, and Aetna’s continued presence is the economic backbone for long-term success. I am grateful to CEO Larry Merlo and his team at CVS for their understanding of the tremendous assets – including a best-in-class workforce – that Hartford has to offer.”
Many Connecticut-based employees of Aetna will certainly welcome the news that their employer is not planning to move headquarters out of the capital city anytime soon.
