Fact-Checkers Say: Chris Murphy Lied On Gun Control

Murphy was caught trying to fundraise off the vegas tragedy and has yet to offer an apology.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) has received “Three Pinocchios” for his gun control claims, according to The Washington Post:

The best data available show gun permits and restricted sales slightly reduce homicides and robberies. Still, there is no evidence that tough laws “dramatically reduce” gun violence as Murphy claims. He exaggerates the little evidence that lends just a hint of support for his side of the gun debate. For this we award him Three Pinocchios — yet again.

The Post‘s highest false rating is “Four Pinocchios.”

Sens. Murphy and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) have eagerly led the political charge on new, restrictive gun legislation. However, it seems facts have fallen to the side of political posturing.

Murphy told Congress to “get off its ass” and do something after the Vegas shooting, but at the same time was caught trying to fundraise off the tragedy. The senator has yet to offer an apology.

While Connecticut’s budget crisis rages, Murphy has found the time to deflect national press questions about a 2020 presidential run, and, it seems, to mislead the public on gun control.
