Former NJ Gov. Christie Endorses Linares for TreasurerAugust 9, 2018
It's a notable, and surprising, endorsement from a national figure in the Connecticut treasurer's race.
Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) – the two-term governor, one-time presidential candidate, and national political figure – has made an endorsement in the Connecticut treasurer’s race.
On Thursday, Christie endorsed State Sen. Art Linares (R-Westbrook) in the two-man race for the GOP nomination for treasurer. Linares is facing off against party-endorsed Thad Gray on August 14.
“The grandson of Cuban exiles who fled Communism to find freedom in the United States, Art Linares cares deeply about the values that make our nation great and his story embodies the American Dream,” Christie said. “Art Linares is a rising star in our Party who has the right experience and plan to deliver reform, returns and results for hardworking taxpayers as Connecticut’s next State Treasurer.”
Linares welcomed Christie’s support:
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to have the support of such an important leader of the Republican Party who has answered the call to support Connecticut Republicans many times in the past and who knows how to win in a blue state,” Linares said. “As a successful two-term governor in New Jersey, Gov. Christie took-on business-as-usual under a different Gold Dome and delivered results for hardworking taxpayers against a broken and entrenched system.”
Christie was on President Trump’s shortlist for several Cabinet positions in 2017.
