Malloy Uses Left-Wing Think Tank to Criticize Senate GOP Health Care Effort

The governor used his official Twitter account to promote a blog post from the Center for American Progress (CAP), a left-wing think tank started by Obama and Clinton allies.

On Wednesday, Gov. Dan Malloy (D-Conn.) criticized the Senate GOP’s efforts at a “skinny repeal” of Obamacare with a tweet linking to a blog post from the Center for American Progress (CAP):

The CAP post blasts “skinny repeal” as an authorization for the Senate GOP “to finalize in secret an ACA repeal bill that will harm millions of Americans.”

However, the analysis Malloy shared does not exactly come from a non-partisan source.

In fact, CAP is a left-wing think tank with strong allies from the Obama and Hillary Clinton worlds.

CAP started as the “brainchild of former [Bill] Clinton White House chief of staff John Podesta,” according to TIME. Podesta also chaired Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign.

TIME says CAP was created to be:

a new organization, a “think tank on steroids,” to help progressive ideas regain power. … Just as candidate Obama depended on CAP during the campaign for opposition research and talking points, President-elect Obama has effectively contracted out the management of his own government’s formation to Podesta.

Another post on CAP from the liberal New Republic said that “it is widely known that the CAP is a Democratic operation, stuffed to the gills with staffers who have either worked in previous Democratic administrations or will go on to work in future ones.”

The governor’s choice to use a left-wing think tank may call his credibility into question for some.
