Murphy 2020? Politico Says He’s “In the Mix”

A new Politico report on the 2020 presidential field for Democrats includes Connecticut's junior senator. Is he the real deal?

A new Politico report out Friday discusses the wide-open Democratic field for the 2020 presidential race. Reporter Gabriel Debenedetti indicates Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is “in the mix” (emphasis ours):

At least a dozen senators are widely thought to be in the mix — including Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren, New Jersey’s Cory Booker, California’s Kamala Harris, Ohio’s Sherrod Brown, Oregon’s Jeff Merkley, New York’s Kirsten Gillibrand, Connecticut’s Chris Murphy, and both Minnesotans, Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken. But the depleted bench of Democratic governors is also stocked with possible White House hopefuls, expanding the list of credible presidential prospects to as many as two dozen.

Is Murphy the real deal? A New York Post report earlier this month said that Trump strategist Steve Bannon had ordered opposition research on Murphy.

Murphy has also been a public voice bashing Trump in his first month. He received a standing ovation from his crowd of hundreds (no, thousands, according to Murphy) while pledging total opposition to Trump.

Murphy has even go so far as to suggest – repeatedly – that the Kremlin is controlling President Trump.

So, is Murphy the real deal? Look out for any trips to Iowa, New Hampshire, or major Democratic confabs. According to Politico, the freshman senator is one to watch.
