Murphy 2020? The Senator Just Told MSNBC He’s “Not Thinking” About It … Right Now

To some, the junior senator's denials may be a sign he's not running for president. But Murphy is parsing his words.

Sen. Chris Murphy has “absolutely no plans” to run for president. Of course, plans can change.

Murphy is “not thinking about running for president.” Of course, Murphy’s not thinking about it now … but he may be in the future.

The junior senator from Connecticut continues to parse words about a possible 2020 presidential run, the latest quotes above from an interview with MSNBC this week.

The Washington Free Beacon reported on Murphy’s comments, and shared video of the interview, on Monday.

Reclaim Connecticut has reported on Murphy’s non-denial denials before. Politico reported in September 2017 that Murphy is expected to use an ‘easy’ re-election campaign to build a war chest for a 2020 presidential run. The Washington Post once listed Murphy as the #3 Democratic contender for president. And Axios reported early in September that Murphy “has begun seeking staff” for a run.

Murphy continues to deny interest in 2020, but keep an eye on the senator and his national profile in the next few years.
