Politico: Murphy Expected “To Build War [Chest] That Can Be Used to Run for President”

Politico listed Chris Murphy as one of several senators who can use an 'easy' re-election campaign to build his war chest for a 2020 presidential run.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is up for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2018, but the young, junior senator may already have his sights set on something bigger.

Politico reported on Monday morning that Murphy is one of six Democrats up fo re-election in 2018 that is expected to use an ‘easy’ re-election campaign to build a war chest for a 2020 presidential run.

From Gabriel Debenedetti:

Of the group of Democrats on the ballot next year, six are expected to win easily and use their campaigns to build war chests that can be used to run for president. The list includes Sanders, Gillibrand, Warren, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy.

It’s the latest in a long line of 2020 rumors about Murphy. The Washington Post listed him as the #3 Democratic contender for president earlier this month. Axios also reported early in September that Murphy “has begun seeking staff” for a run.

Murphy is busy proposing a “Medicare Buy-In” plan in an effort to give every American “access to Medicare.”
