Tax Foundation: CT’s 2019 State Business Tax Climate Ranked 4th-Worst in U.S.

The Tax Foundation is out with its 2019 State Tax Index. It's more bad news for Connecticut businesses large and small.

The Tax Foundation released the 2019 version of its State Business Tax Climate Index this week. Connecticut is ranked #47 of 50 states, the fourth-worst ranking in the nation.

Connecticut ranked low on several other metrics as well:

  • Property taxes: #50 of 50 states
  • Individual taxes: #43 of 50 states
  • Sales taxes: #30 of 50 states
  • Corporate taxes: #29 of 50 states
  • Unemployment insurance taxes: #23 of 50 states

Connecticut’s neighbors generally fared better. Massachusetts was ranked #29, and Rhode Island #37. New York (#48) was one of the three states with a lower ranking than Connecticut, along with California (#49) and New Jersey (#50).
