Trump Cabinet Member to Visit CT Crumbling Foundations

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson is visiting Connecticut on Monday, and will be hosted by Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Ben Carson is visiting Willington, Connecticut on Monday, by invitation of a man who voted against his confirmation to HUD, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).

The AP‘s readout of the event:

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, Democrats Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Joe Courtney, and Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman visit the home of Maggie and Vincent Perracchio in Willington, CT, which has severe cracks in the foundation[.] Sen. Murphy invited Secretary Carson to visit Connecticut to see the damage and hear firsthand from homeowners during a recent Senate Committee on Appropriations hearing[.]

The crumbling foundations issue remains a major one in eastern Connecticut. State taxpayers are helping homeowners who have seen their private homes damaged or destroyed in the last few years.

The marriage of Carson, Murphy, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) on this issue is strange in at least one respect: both Murphy and Blumenthal voted against Carson’s confirmation to lead HUD.

Carson was confirmed to HUD in March 2017 with a bipartisan majority in the U.S. Senate. Six Democrats crossed the aisle and voted with 51 Republicans and one independent to confirm Carson.
