Washington Post: Murphy the #3 Contender for Dem NomineeSeptember 11, 2017
Murphy was a surprise at #3 on The Washington Post's 2020 list, ahead of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), and others.
“He may be the one guy on this list that not enough people are talking about.”
That was the conclusion of The Washington Post‘s Aaron Blake on Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), in a Friday article on the “top 15 possible 2020 Democratic nominees, ranked.”
Murphy was ranked third on that top 15 list, a surprise showing for the freshman senator from Connecticut.
Here is the rest of Blake’s write-up:
Murphy has impressed plenty of folks since entering the Senate in 2013, particularly with his messaging. He’s also got clear progressive bona fides — on gun control and fighting Trump — without seeming like too much of a Northeastern liberal. He says he’s not interested in running, but nearly everyone thinks he’d be an instant contender. He may be the one guy on this list that not enough people are talking about.
Some Connecticut Republicans and conservatives may disagree with Blake’s assertion that Murphy does not seem “like too much of a Northeastern liberal.”
The only Democrats ahead of Murphy on Blake’s list were ex-VP Joe Biden and socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
